The MacLochlainn Commission of Investigation into the fatal shooting by members of An Garda Síochána of Ronan MacLochlainn on 1 May 1998 in Ashford, Co Wicklow came before Government today.
The report is set to be published in the coming days and although there is criticism of the gardaí, it found the shooting was justified.
The MacLochlainn Commission was established in August 2014 to investigate the fatal shooting of Ronan MacLochlainn by members of the Garda Síochána in the course of an attempted armed robbery of a Securicor van in Co Wicklow.
The shooting took place on the day of the so-called "Blue Flu".
The establishment of the commission followed a case taken by Mr MacLochlainn's partner, Gráinne Nic Gibb to the European Court of Human Rights.
She had alleged a breach by Ireland of the European Convention on Human Rights over the failure to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
The court struck the case out on foot of an undertaking by Ireland to establish a Commission of Investigation into the matter.
