The Cabinet will meet tomorrow afternoon for what is described as a "discussion on the current state of play in the economy".
The outcome of the discussion is expected to feed into the summer economic statement, which is set to be published later this month.
That statement will ultimately influence the Government's decisions in the lead up to the Budget in October.
Ministers will provide updates on spending at their departments and Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe will give a detailed breakdown of the overall economic picture.
This will be the second Cabinet meeting this week.
It is understood this approach to scheduling Cabinet meetings will become more common under new
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.Government sources have indicated that from now on the weekly Cabinet meeting may not always be held on Tuesday mornings.
There are also suggestions that some Cabinet meetings will take place away from Government Buildings.
However, they are not going to be held in "stately homes" - something that drew much criticism when it was attempted by the last Fianna Fáil-led government.
This "modern" approach will also see special stand-alone Cabinet meetings on issues such as climate change.
