The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter has rescued an injured seaman from on board a Norwegian naval vassal almost 300 kilometres off the Cork coast.
The mission is on the outer limits of the rescue helicopter's capabilities.
Rescue 115 re-fuelled in Castletownbere in west Cork on its way to pick up the casualty.
The helicopter landed at Cork Airport with the injured Norwegian naval officer on board just before 7pm.
He was transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The nature of his injuries have not been disclosed.
The operation was co-ordinated by the Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre at Valentia in Co Kerry, and the Waterford-based Coast Guard helicopter was standing by in Castletownbere as back-up.
Both helicopters have arrived safely back at their bases.
