Gardaí in south Galway have arrested two men in connection with a robbery in Ballymakeera in Co Cork.

The raid happened at a shop in the village just after 8am this morning.

The raiders, one of whom was armed, burst into the store and made off with a sum of money.

They are believed to have made their getaway in a Mini Cooper, which was later seen in Millstreet in north Cork.

The car is believed to have travelled across country before it was pursued over several kilometres through south Galway by gardaí from Gort.

The car was eventually stopped and the two men were arrested.

Both are aged in their 20s and from Co Cork.
