A 22-year-old man who was questioned in connection with an allegedassault in Navan, Co Meath, which left a man in a critical condition in hospital, has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The man was arrested after a 21-year-old man was found in the early hours of yesterday morning on the ground on Watergate Street in the town.

He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
