A stand-off between prison staff and dissident republican inmates at Portlaoise Prison has ended peacefully.
The disturbances began at around midday when approximately 30 inmates locked themselves in on the E Wing landing at the country's maximum security prison.
Gardaí and the Army were put on standby but the situation was resolved peacefully after negotiations involving the Prison Governor.
