A large gorse fire in the Lead Mines area of south Dublin has been brought under control after earlier affecting visibility on the M50, according to the Dublin Fire Brigade.

Smoke from the fire was drifting across the motorway and drivers were advised at the time to turn their lights on.

A number of fire units attended the scene at Rathmichael where the M50 and M11 merge this afternoon.

A water tanker was deployed to supplement the fire units and a drone was also deployed to help direct the operation.

Technicians from ESB also attended the scene to make power lines safe while the fire brigade worked.

This evening, the Dublin Fire Brigade said that the fire has now been brought under control.
