The Food Safety Authority has confirmed that a closure order has been made on the food section of a Portmarnock pub following a salmonella outbreak.

The Health Service Executive and the FSA have begun an investigation after a number of people complained of feeling unwell after attending a First Communion party at O'Dwyers Bar & Grill, where the catering was provided by a private company.

The FSA said in a statement that its investigation is focusing on the catering company involved - Flanreil Food Services Ltd - but the source of the contamination has not yet been identified.

It said a closure order was made on the kitchen and storage areas occupied by the catering company at the pub on Strand Road, Portmarnock last Friday.

The HSE said that an outbreak control team has been set up.

Its says members of the public should contact their GP if they have concerns for their health.
