Two people have been arrested following an aggravated burglary in Dublin, in which a man was forced to withdraw money from an ATM and a bank branch.

Gardaí say a 24-year-old woman and 27-year-old man broke into a house in Terenure in the early hours of yesterday and threatened a man inside.

The man, who is in his mid-60s, was taken to an ATM and forced to withdraw a sum of cash.

At 10am, he was then taken to the AIB bank in Rathgar and forced to withdraw a substantial amount of money.

In total, more than €15,000 was stolen from the man.

He was assaulted during the course of his ordeal and sustained a minor facial injury.

A man and a woman were arrested in Dublin city centre yesterday evening in connection with the burglary and are being held at Terenure Garda Station.

Gardaí say a substantial amount of money was recovered and investigations are continuing.
