Two men have been arrested by gardaí investigating a scam targeting a European company.

The fraud, involving invoice redirection, induced the company based in Europe to send VAT payments to an individual's account.

It is believed the database of the true recipient had been the target of a malware attack and as a result, the European company was issued with a request to use fraudulent bank account details instead of the real recipient’s account details.

The money was then forwarded to other accounts in Ireland and elsewhere.

However, over €900,000 was recovered before it was redistributed.

The operation was carried out by Garda National Economic Crime Bureau.

The two men, aged 31 and 67, are being held at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
