A 24-year-old man has been charged with the murder of David 'Daithi' Douglas.

Gareth Brophy, of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court next Friday.

Mr Douglas, a father-of-one, was shot dead in Dublin on 1 July 2016 as part of an ongoing feud between the Hutch and Kinahan crime gangs.

The 53-year-old was shot dead on Bridgefoot Street in The Liberties area of the city.

Mr Brophy appeared before Judge Dermot Simms at Dublin District Court this morning.

Evidence was given by Detective Garda Niall Godfrey, who told the court that Mr Brophy was arrested at the Barn House pub in Dolphin's Barn at 11.58pm last night.

He was taken to Kevin Street Garda Station and charged at 2.54am.

Det Garda Godfrey said he cautioned Mr Brophy that he did not have to say anything and anything he did say may be given in evidence.

The court heard the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed the accused to be returned for trial and he could also be sent forward for sentence on a signed plea should that arise.

Defence solicitor Jenny McGeever furnished the court with a statement of her client's means.

Noting there was no Garda objection, Judge Simms granted legal aid and remanded Mr Brophy in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday.

Mr Brophy did not speak during the brief hearing but stood in the dock with his arms folded.
