The jury in the trial of a 17-year-old charged with the murder of another youth in Co Mayo has been discharged.
The case against the accused, who denies murder, will be heard by a new jury at the Central Criminal Court in July.
The victim, Dovydas Jenkas, was a fifth year student at St Colman's College, in Claremorris.
He died after sustaining a single stab wound in the garden of a house at the Claremont Manor estate in the town on 19 December 2015.
The prosecution team concluded its case on Friday last, however, the court was told this week that fresh evidence had emerged.
Today the State asked that the case be reopened to recall a witness.
Counsel for the accused, Michael Bowman said he was opposed to this, maintaining that reintroducing the witness could "not be safely done".
After legal argument on the issue, Mr Justice Paul Butler said he was discharging the jury.
The judge offered his regret and sympathy to both families involved in the case.
He said he had no option but to discharge the jury in light of what had emerged.
The new trial, which is fixed to start on 11 July, will be heard before different judge as well as a different jury.
