The trial of a 17-year-old, charged with the murder of another youth in Co Mayo in 2015 has heard the victim was chased around the back garden of a house before he was fatally stabbed.

The jury heard Mr Jenkas had been visiting the accused's sister in the house, when her brother knocked on a locked bedroom door demanding to know who was with her.

Mr Jenkas fled from the house through a bathroom window.

The accused denies the charge and told Gardaí what had happened was accidental.

He added that he chased his victim around a trampoline in the garden, shouting at him to leave but he would not do so.

The accused told officers he had a knife in his hand which he had taken from his room and accidentally stabbed his victim.

Blood loss was considerable, the pathologist said.

Mr Jenkas, who was a fifth year student at St Colman's College, Claremorris, died at the scene despite intensive efforts by paramedics and others to save him.
