A 47-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court accused of murdering a teenage boy.
Gerard Cruise with an address at Rathmullan Park, Drogheda, is charged with committing the alleged offence earlier this year.
Det Sgt Peter Cooney gave evidence of arresting the accused at 12.18am and charging him at 12.50am.
The court heard Mr Cruise made no reply when the charge was put to him after caution.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan remanded him in custody to Drogheda District Court, sitting in Dundalk next Friday to appear via videolink, and adjourned the case for preparation and service of a book of evidence.
The defence solicitor also applied for legal aid as her client is in receipt of disability allowance.
Before the defendant was brought into the courthouse a number of members of the public shouted abuse at the accused.
