More than 470 drivers were caught speeding on Irish roads by gardaí yesterday, including one motorcyclist caught doing 198km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Gardaí said that more than 101,900 vehicles were monitored yesterday as part of the Christmas and New Year road safety campaign.
Of these, 476 vehicles were detected to be in excess of the speed limit.
Among those caught was a motorcyclist doing 198km/h in a 100km/h zone at Drummindoo in Westport.
Others included a driver travelling at 122km/h in a 50km/h zone at Mount Brown in Dublin city, and another driving at 109km/h in a 60km/h zone in Dungarvan.
In Ballinasloe, Co Galway, one driver was caught going 116km/h in an 80km/h zone.
It comes as a further 400 drivers were caught speeding on St Stephen's Day.
Gardaí say that speeding is a major factor in road deaths and have urged people to slow down to save lives.
