Artisan foods from across the west of Ireland have been used to create a unique series of artworks which will be exhibited for the first time this evening.

Wicklow-based artist Frank Corry joined forces with Galway's Michelin-starred Loam restaurant on the 'Loam Atoms' project.

Mr Corry spent the summer and autumn months collecting sample materials from the restaurant and the local suppliers it collaborates with.

He painstakingly processed these raw materials to create an array of pigments which he used in the artworks.

Mr Corry, who trained as a chef before becoming an artist, said he was excited by the parallels between the art and the food world.

"For me the art world should and thankfully is mirroring what we have seen in the food world," he said.

He added: "Fantastic chefs like Loam's Enda McEvoy working in a wildly imaginative way that is in constant evolution, utterly embracing and accessible and only becoming more so.

"I find the parallels very exciting, the aims similar and the increased incentivising of a wider audience willing to see/try something new free from the old misconceptions, assumptions and exclusivity."
