An Irish-American Democratic Congressman has said that US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will appoint a special envoy to Northern Ireland.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had previously said that he was eliminating international special envoys.
Congressman Richard Neal was at the White House today for a meeting related to the president's tax reform agenda.
He said he pressed upon him the need for such an envoy and received assurances from both Mr Trump President and his Irish-American chief of staff, James Kelly, that the position would be filled.
At this critical time, I am pleased that President Trump promised not to eliminate the Northern Ireland Special Envoy during our mtg today.
