A man who was arrested following the seizure of around €1.2m in cash in Carlow is due to appear before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court tomorrow morning.
Gardaí believe the cash is connected to the Kinahan crime gang.
The money was found after a number of checkpoints were carried out in Ballyvergal, Carlow last night as part of Operation Thor.
The man, who is in his 50s and known to travel in and out of the country frequently, was arrested and detained on suspicion of money laundering.
Gardaí say the money was packed for transport and believe it is the proceeds of drug dealing and was to be smuggled for the Kinahan gang to Spain.
