A man has appeared in court in Co Cork charged in connection with an alleged assault on a ten-week-old baby girl in Co Louth earlier this year.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in Cork city and brought before a sitting of the district court in Clonakilty.

He was charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to the infant at an address in Co Louth on 13 March.

He was remanded on bail subject to a number of conditions and will appear again before the district court in Dundalk on 24 August.

The conditions included a personal surety of €500, that he reside at a specified address, that he sign on three times a week at a garda station in Cork, and have no contact with any witnesses in the case.
