A man in his 50s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Co Mayo on Friday evening.
The man was swimming in the sea at Westport Quay, shortly after 7pm.
He had been with a number of other people at a location known as 'The Point' when he got into difficulty. It is understood he managed to get ashore but died shortly afterwards.
His body has been taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
The deceased was originally from Castlebar.
