Three men have appeared in Mallow District Court charged in relation to the discovery of a cannabis growhouse in Co Cork containing plants with an estimated street value of €250,000.

The three foreign nationals were remanded in custody. 

They were arrested after an operation by gardaí in Fermoy, Co Cork and Portlaoise, Co Laois which led to the discovery of a growhouse in Fermoy.

Zoran Spasich, 56, a Serbian-born New Zealand citizen, Hong Kong-born British citizen Kim Cheung Johnson Liao, 51, and Malaysian citizen Kim Wong, 38, were all charged with were charged with possession of cannabis for sale or supply.

All three men's addresses were given as No Fixed Abode, 

Mr Wong was also charged with a second offence of failing to produce a valid passport or equivalent identity document twhen requested to do so by gardaí at Rathealy Road, Fermoy on Saturday last.

All three men were granted free legal aid.
