A man in his 40s has died in a single-vehicle crash in Co Cork and separately, a cyclist in his 30s has died following a collision with a car in Dublin.

In Cork, gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at Ballinwillin Strand at around 9.45am.

The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The road was closed for a technical examination and local diversions were put in place.

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Middleton Garda Station on 021-462 1550.

Meanwhile in Dublin, a cyclist, in his 30s, was seriously injured in a collision with a car on Conyngham Road, Dublin 8, at approximately 2.15pm.

He was taken to St James's Hospital where he later passed away. A post mortem is due to take place.

The female driver of the car, in her 40s, received minor injuries.

The scene of the collision on Conyngham Road is currently closed to allow for a technical examination. Road diversions are in place.
