Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 50s died following a collision near Castleblayney in Co Monaghan today.

The woman was struck by a car at 1.10pm and treated by emergency services personnel at the scene before being taken by air ambulance to St James's Hospital, Dublin, where she was later pronounced dead.

A second pedestrian, a 60-year-old man, was also struck by the car and sustained minor injuries. The occupants of the car were uninjured.

The N2 Dublin/Monaghan Road will remain closed until at least lunchtime tomorrow in both directions between Kinnegan and Castleblayney, according to gardaí.
