A man in his 30s has been airlifted to University Hospital Waterford after falling ill on board a fishing vessel off the Co Waterford coast late last night.

The Coast Guard received a call from the skipper of the small fishing vessel, which was approximately 12 nautical miles offshore southwest of Tramore.

He reported one crewman had been taken ill.

The rescue helicopter from Waterford assisted by the Dunmore East Coast Guard unit and the Dunmore East lifeboat attended the scene and the man was successfully airlifted from the vessel.
