An 84-year-old man has been killed in a collision on the M8 at Rathcormac in Co Cork and in Cavan, a woman in her 80s died following a single-vehicle crash.
In Cork, the accident happened at around 11.30am this morning when a van and a 4x4 vehicle collided head-on.
The driver of the 4x4 was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van, a man believed to be in his late 20s, was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.
It is understood his condition is serious but stable. Traffic diversions were put in place but the road has since reopened.

Meanwhile in Cavan, a woman in her 80s died following a single-vehicle crash.
It is believed the crash occurred last night when the car she was driving struck a ditch.
Gardaí were called to the scene when the alarm was raised at around 10.45am this morning.
The crash occurred on a local road at Keenagh near Ballyjamesduff.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has since been removed to Our Lady’s Hospital Navan for a post-mortem examination.
The scene has been examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
