Bohemian FC have launched an internal investigation following allegations that a former club volunteer was involved in an inappropriate incident with a minor 18 years ago.
The allegation was made by Roddy Collins, who was the club's first-team manager at the time of the alleged incident, in the Irish Daily Star today.
In a statement, the Dublin club said they were first made aware of the allegation when they were contacted by a journalist on Sunday evening.
Bohemians say the accused man was immediately removed from his position when the club was notified of a garda investigation into allegations of abuse and he has had no further affiliation with the club.
Contact has been made with gardaí to establish the nature and conclusion of that investigation.
The club say that since being made aware of Mr Collins' allegations yesterday, they have "spoken at length ... to individuals involved at board level, the youth set-up and other areas of the club at the time of the alleged incident."
