Gardaí in Galway are seeking witnesses following the death of a woman in her 20s in the early hours of this morning.
The woman was one of two people who fell from a moving van, as it turned off the N59 between Moycullen and Bearna, shortly before 2:30am.
It is understood that both women were passengers in the back of the vehicle. Gardaí believe that they fell against the rear doors of the van, which then opened.
It is understood that a total of seven people were in the van at the time of the incident. Two are thought to have been in the front, with five others in the back.
Both women were taken to University Hospital Galway, where one of them was pronounced dead a short time later. The other woman is said to be in a stable condition this evening.
The van has been recovered and is being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardaí also carried out inspections at the scene of the incident at the junction of the Moycullen to Bearna road.
No arrests have been made but gardaí have spoken to a number of people who were travelling in the van when the incident occurred.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who may have been travelling in the area between 1.45am and 3.15am, to contact them at Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666111 or at any garda station.
