The death of a teenager in Co Clare early today is being investigated by gardaí.

The alarm was raised at around 6.40am when a motorist reported she had collided with something on a country road near Killimer.

The woman stopped her car and returned to the scene where she found a 15-year-old boy lying injured on the roadside.

It is understood the victim may have been lying on the roadside or suffered a fall before the car collided with him.

The victim was later pronounced dead and his body removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Gardaí will await the results of the post-mortem before they determine the course of their investigation.
