Drugs worth over €4m seized in customs operation

Drugs worth more than €4 million have been seized by customs during a routine search operation at the weekend.

The seizure was made on Sunday during an operation targeting illegal importation, during which a vehicle was stopped and searched by customs officers in the border midlands west region.

Among the drugs seized were approximately 60kg of herbal cannabis, 33kg of cocaine, 2.2kg of MDMA and over 72,000 ecstasy tablets. 

The Revenue Commissioners has said that investigations are ongoing.
