A member of the Defence Forces has been taken to Tallaght Hospital following an incident at Custume Barracks in Athlone this afternoon.
The male soldier was injured in a parachute jump while on a routine training exercise in the barracks.
The soldier suffered injuries in what is understood to be a hard landing.
The soldier is believed to be in a serious condition, but responsive state, at Tallaght Hospital.
