A British man has been arrested at a Donald Trump rally after going for a police officer's gun before telling investigators he wanted to kill the US presidential hopeful.
Michael Sandford, 20, tried to grab the weapon from the officer after asking for the Republican candidate's autograph at a Las Vegas casino.
The man told investigators he had been planning the assassination for a year, including spending time on a firing range in recent days, and was convinced he would die in the attempt.
Mr Sandford, who was carrying a UK driver's licence, is expected to appear in a US court in Nevada later charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds.
A British Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are providing assistance following an arrest of a British national in Las Vegas."
According to court documents, Michael Sandford tried to disarm the officer at the 18 June rally at the Mystere Theatre in the Treasure Island Casino before being overpowered.
"Sandford revealed that he made a conscious effort to come to Las Vegas to kill Trump," the complaint states.
Donald Trump drops campaign manager
Meanwhile, Mr Trump has dropped his controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, a spokeswoman told The New York Times, as the billionaire looks to reposition himself for the general election.
"The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign," spokeswoman Hope Hicks told the newspaper in a statement.
"The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future."
