A man in his 70s has died in a house fire in Moyvane in north Kerry.

Four units of the fire service from Limerick and Kerry battled the blaze which broke out last night at around 11pm.

It took four hours to bring the blaze under control. It is understood adjoining houses in the Woodgrove housing estate were also damaged.

The local man lived alone. A post-mortem examination is being carried out at University Hospital Kerry in Tralee.

A forensic examination of the scene is taking place, however the circumstances surrounding the fire are not believed to be suspicious.
