Deal puts sharing of Advanced Passenger Information on a statutory basis

Ireland and the Britain will share advance passenger information (API) on air and sea travellers under the terms of an agreement approved by Cabinet this morning.

The deal will put the sharing of API on a statutory basis and will apply to all ferry and air companies operating between the two jurisdictions.

CSO figures show some ten million passenger journeys by air alone would be involved in the information sharing.

The Cabinet also approved two more 12-week deployments by the Naval Service in support of rescue and humanitarian missions in the Mediterranean with LÉ Roisin due to operate the first mission.

Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald also said the establishment date of the second Special Criminal Court will be 25 April.
