Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has described the talks between the two main parties and independents as a "charade".
He said his party would meet tomorrow to decide whether it would nominate him for taoiseach when the Dáil votes on the matter in the afternoon.
Speaking at a press conference at Leinster house, Mr Adams was repeatedly asked what he had done to form a government since the election and if he would make a telephone call to Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael.
Mr Adams said his party was open to talks but did not want a government led by Micheál Martin or Enda Kenny.
He also said his party was seeking the abolition of Irish Water and water charges and not the suspension of the charges as Fianna Fáil had proposed.
He was also asked about comments made recently by newly-elected Dublin Mid-West TD Eoin Ó Broin on RTÉ's This Week.
He said the party believed an independent commission could examine the "best possible model of public ownership" and he had not yet heard "anybody outline a detailed or credible alternative" to the current structure.
Mr Adams said the commission would look at public ownership and the terms of reference would reflect that.
When asked what would happen if the commission recommended that the current structure be maintained, he indicated it would not be in a position to make such as recommendation as the terms of reference would not allow it.
He said it would be an independent commission and added that if the commission recommended higher charges, Sinn Féin would not accept that finding.
Mr Adams said: "If you ask me to do a job of work, whatever it is, you want to convert my kitchen, right. You give me the terms of reference, you tell me the type of kitchen you want. You tell me the price you want and so forth. And I'm obliged to go and honour that. I don't go and make your kitchen into a dining room".
Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are continuing their separate talks with independents today.
Fine Gael is expected to give the 15 independent deputies a document this evening which will reflect their discussions with them.
