A man has died in a multi-vehicle accident near Mallow, Co Cork this afternoon.

The man, who was in his early 70s, suffered fatal injuries when the lorry he was driving was involved in a collision with four cars.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

The occupants of three of the cars, three men and three women, aged in their mid teens to late 60s, and the passenger of the lorry, a man aged in his 20s, were taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The two occupants of the fourth car involved were uninjured.

A horse also died in the collision.

The accident happened at 1pm at Mallow, on the Cork city side of the Killarney roundabout.

The N20 was closed earlier at Ballydahin, Mallow, to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
