Schools and colleges across Ireland held ceremonies today to mark the significance of the Proclamation of Independence.
In what was the biggest event so far in the 1916 Commemorative programme, schools raised the Irish flag, read the proclamation, and also read new proclamations written by pupils, setting out their visions and ideals for the future.
The event was the culmination of months of work by pupils, teachers, and parents. Almost every school child in the country will be a participant.
They all played a part in drawing up their school's proclamation for a new generation.

Schools say the initiative captured the imagination of students in a way they could not have dreamt of, with many pupils addressing topical issues such as homelessness in the proclamations they drew up.
As well as the raising of the flag, and the reading of proclamations, schools have developed their own individual and colourful programmes with poetry, music and pageant.
