A 12-year-old boy has died after the pony and trap he was travelling on was involved in a collision with a truck.

The incident happened on St Cuthbert's Road in Clondalkin, Dublin at around 1.40pm this afternoon.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.

Two other boys that were travelling on the pony and trap were not injured.

A forensic examination of the scene is being carried out by gardai.
