A man in his 50s has died in hospital following a workplace accident in Cork city.

It is understood he sustained head injuries when a cherry picker he was on was knocked over at the Bus Éireann Capwell garage on Monday afternoon.

In a statement today, Bus Éireann extended its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, extended family and friends of the man who died.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time," the statement said.

The accident is currently under investigation by Bus Éireann, gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority.
