Tech entrepreneur and former RTÉ correspondent and presenter Mark Little has been appointed to a senior managerial role in Twitter.

Mr Little will take up his position as Vice-President of Media for Europe and Africa next month.

The media team at the microblogging network works with broadcasters, celebrities and other partners around the world to deliver content that will expand the reach of its audience.

Mr Little will be based in Twitter's Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters in Dublin and will work alongside Stephen McIntyre, Twitter's Vice President of Online and Reseller Sales for EMEA and the managing director of its Dublin office.

Last June Mr Little announced he was leaving Storyful, the media company he set up five years ago.

The firm sources and verifies information and user generated content from social media feeds, and sells the service on to media companies.

His decision to leave Storyful came 18 months after he sold the firm to News Corp for €18m.

One year after the sale, he took up the position of Director of Editorial Innovation at Storyful, and stepped down as chief executive.

When he announced he was leaving the firm earlier this year, Mr Little said it was "not an easy decision but it’s a good one. And most importantly, it’s my decision alone."

His move to Twitter comes at a time of great change at the social media network.

Last month co-founder and former chief executive of the company Jack Dorsey was re-appointed as chief executive to replace predecessor, Dick Costolo, who stepped down on 1 July.

In recent months Twitter has had trouble driving growth in user numbers, and Mr Dorsey has begun putting in place a range of measures to try to reinvigorate the firm.

In October the company announced that it is to shed 336 jobs, or about 8% of its workforce.

It currently employs over 200 staff at its EMEA headquarters in Dublin and has just taken a lease out on a new building in the capital where its entire Irish staff will be based.
