Aer Lingus has cancelled eight flights today and two tomorrow because of fog in London.

A spokeswoman for the airline said a number of flights between Irish airports and London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports were delayed for several hours due to the weather conditions there.

Fog, which has descended on Dublin this evening, is causing further knock-on delays to some flights.

The spokeswoman added that most passengers on cancelled flights were accommodated on other services by upgrading to larger aircraft, but those who have not been, will be accommodated on services tomorrow.

Two flights due to travel tomorrow between Dublin and London (EI154 and EI155) have been cancelled because of further heavy fog expected in London in the morning.

Passengers on these flights have been notified and advised on how to make alternative arrangements.

Aer Lingus is advising all passengers travelling to London tomorrow that there may be delays.

Meanwhile, due to the fog in the UK, a number of Ryanair's Dublin flights to and from London have been delayed.

Those travelling this evening or tomorrow are advised to check the status of their flight on the Ryanair website, or via the airline's Twitter account.

Elsewhere, flights in and out of Cork Airport have also been affected by the fog.

Four flights were cancelled and other services are running up to four hours behind schedule.

A spokesman for the airport said it was expected all aircraft due to fly out from Cork in the morning should be in situ tonight to allow the first wave of departures to leave on time.
