Taoiseach Enda Kenny attended a prayer service in Wexford this afternoon for Thomas and Sylvia Connors and three of their children, Jim, Christy, and baby Mary, who died in the Carrickmines fire in Dublin earlier this month.

Mr Kenny arrived for the prayers at the Church of the Assumption in Bride Street along with his Cabinet colleague Brendan Howlin, who is a local TD.

The five members of the Connors family were then buried in Crosstown cemetery nearby.

The funeral Mass took place in Balally in south Dublin yesterday.

Two of the Connors' children, Michael and Thomas, survived.

Altogether ten people died in the halting site blaze on Glenamuck Road in south Dublin.

The funerals of 25-year-old Willie Lynch; 27-year-old Tara Gilbert, who was pregnant; their daughters, nine-year-old Jodie and four-year-old Kelsey; and Willie's brother, 39-year-old Jimmy Lynch, were held on Tuesday.

The congregation heard the Bishop of Ferns, Dr Denis Brennan, read a message of condolence from Pope Francis to the families affected by the Carrickmines fire and to the whole Traveller community.

Pope Francis said he is praying especially for the ten people who have died and assured all their family members, their friends and the whole Traveller community of his spiritual closeness and sympathy at this very difficult time.

Bishop Brennan described the fire as a cruel blow and added his own sympathy to that of the Pope.

Reverend Aodhan Marken, who led the prayers for the family and their surviving sons, said: "As we pray for them, we especially pray for their sons and brothers Michael and Tom who are in the loving care of their family.

"There is no doubt that the memories of their mam and dad, brothers and sister will be kept alive by all those who love them and take care of them.

"This family lived united in love - surrounded by care and kindness - may this be the story that their sons are told and may this be the legacy that continues as we remember and pray for them.

"Yes they died amid tragedy and devastation but they lived in love for one another and especially for their family."
