Discussions between council officials and residents opposed to council plans for an emergency halting site next to their estate in south Dublin are continuing.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council intends to use the site to resettle those left homeless by a fatal fire in a halting site in Carrickmines on Saturday.
The Rockville Drive residents remain opposed to the site.
They have blocked entry to the plot of land. Council officials have said the land will be used as an emergency site for six months.
However, a number of people are demonstrating in favour of the use of the site for emergency accommodation.
Last night, hundreds of people attended a vigil at the scene of the fire at Carrickmines in Dublin.
The vigil was attended by people from the Traveller and settled communities.
They stood at the now-empty halting site, where the fire last Saturday led to the deaths of five adults and five children, among them a pregnant mother and a six-month-old baby girl.
Meanwhile, Labour Councillor Lettie McCarthy told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that there are pre-existing problems with the proposed site and she did not believe this is a case of settled versus Traveller people.
"It's an extremely confined site," she said.
"There's just a footpath each side. It's a very narrow entrance in, they have no place to park their cars except on the road so it's very difficult to access.
"That has always been a difficulty, it hasn't been invented because residents don't want Travellers going into that site. It has always been an issue between residents and the council."
Today, a council spokesperson said it is committed to using every available resource to address the concerns of local residents.
This follows the second meeting between residents of Rockville Drive in south Dublin and local council officials in Dun Laoghaire Town Hall this morning.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council issued a statement after the meeting, saying that the temporary site will be decommissioned within six months, on completion of works at a new permanent designated site.
Discussions are ongoing, the Council says progress is being made and further announcements are expected this afternoon.
