Aer Lingus plane with more than 100 on board makes emergency landing in New York

An Aer Lingus plane made an emergency landing at JFK Airport in New York last night, shortly after take-off on a flight to Shannon.

The Boeing 757 aircraft turned back after a technical fault was discovered and all 110 passengers on Flight EI-110 disembarked safely.

The plane had been due to land at Shannon at 6am this morning.

Aer Lingus said the passengers would be accommodated on the next available flights.

In a statement to RTÉ News, the company said emergency services were on the scene as a precaution.
