Two flights made unscheduled landings at Irish airports this afternoon after passengers on board became ill.
The crew of Air Canada flight ACA-871 declared a medical emergency and diverted to Shannon reporting that a passenger on board suffered a suspected heart attack.
The flight was en route from Paris to Montreal with 431 passengers and crew on board.
Cabin crew personnel tended to the patient who was administered oxygen while emergency medical services were requested to be standing by at Shannon.
The flight landed safely at 2.30pm and was met by ambulance paramedics and a doctor. The patient was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
The flight was able to resume its journey at 4.40pm.
Meanwhile, a Ryanair flight from Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands to Edinburgh diverted to Dublin Airport after a woman became unwell.
Flight FR-8422 was over Co Kilkenny at around 4pm when the crew requested clearance to descend and divert to Dublin.
The crew reported that a woman in her late 60s had fallen ill.
The flight touched down in Dublin at 4.15pm and was met by airport fire service paramedics. The woman was taken to hospital.
The aircraft continued onwards to Edinburgh a short time later.
