A 21-year-old woman is to go forward on a plea of not guilty to the Circuit Criminal Court on a charge of careless driving causing the death of her 14-year old babysitter.

Sarah O'Connell, of Sean Moylan Park, Mallow, Co Cork was charged with driving without due care and attention thereby causing the death of Caitlín Taylor at Knockeenahone,  Scartaglen, Co Kerry on 15 June 2014.

Ms O'Connell was charged with the single offence on 18 November and the District Court heard in December that she made no reply to the charge.

The matter had been adjourned to March when her solicitor Padraig O'Connell applied for an extension of the legal aid certificate to provide for an engineer's report on the condition of the road at the scene of the accident between Ballydesmond and Scartaglen on the Kerry-Cork border.

Judge James O'Connor refused the application and the case was adjourned to today for mention.

Mr O'Connell told Tralee District Court today that his client would be going forward on a plea of not guilty to the Circuit Criminal Court.

Ms O'Connell has been remanded on bail and the matter was adjourned to 17 June for production of the book of evidence.
