A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Cork woman Karen Buckley.

Alexander Pacteau is also accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea during a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

A major police search was launched when Ms Buckley, 24, vanished after a night out in Glasgow last weekend.

Her body was found at High Craigton Farm on the northwestern outskirts of the city following a four-day search.

A Crown Office spokesman said it is anticipated Mr Pacteau will appear again next week for a further hearing.
