Three people have died in two separate road crashes in Cork and Dublin.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s were killed when their hit a ditch at Ballinahina in White's Cross, Cork city at about 12.30am.

Post-mortem examinations will be carried out at Cork University Hospital.

It is understood that no other vehicle was involved in the crash.

Separately, a pedestrian in his 40s died after being struck by a car in Dublin overnight.

Today's deaths bring to 126 the number of people who have died on Irish roads so far this year.

That is an increase of seven on the same period last year.
