A female pedestrian died this morning in a crash between a car and a Luas tram in Dublin.

The incident happened at the junction of Jervis Street and Abbey Street Upper at 8.45am.

35-year-old Yao Webster from Donabate in Dublin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí say a BMW car and a Luas tram, which was travelling on the red line towards Tallaght, collided.

It is understood the car then spun out of control and struck the woman, who was at the junction. She was her way to work at the time.

The road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

The Luas line was also closed between Smithfield and Connolly stops this morning, but has also since reopened.

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage to determine what happened.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact Store Street Garda Station.

Veolia Transdev Ireland, the company that runs the Luas, has said it will be carrying out its own investigation into the incident.
