The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced it will not proceed with a licensing process for commercial digital terrestrial television.

The BAI had been tasked to review whether commercial digital television was viable.

It found that market conditions for launching commercial digital television had not improved.

The BAI has told Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte that any licensing process would probably have negative implications and "it would be unlikely that any regulatory actions could substantially influence this situation".
