A Mayo man in his early 20s has died following a traffic collision in Qatar.

Darragh Walsh from The Neale is thought to have been killed last Thursday night when he was hit by a car.

Mr Walsh moved to Qatar in the past month and was working with an Irish company there.

He comes from a well-known GAA family in south Mayo.

A minute's silence was observed in his honour before this afternoon's Connacht Senior Football Club Championship Final at Dr Hyde Park in Roscommon.

Arrangements are being made to have his body brought home.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to his family.
